Lin Cuixi 林翠西

Lin Cuixi is an artist who writes, produces, performs, and accidentally codes. Her works follow the movement of people, objects, and emotions through the machinery of global commerce, labor, and technological forces. Beginning with ordinary acts like buying and selling or smiling for a camera, she inhabits and hijacks the systems behind them through acts of fiction and camouflage, turning them into sites of collective experience.

In the name of “performance,” she carves out time and space thicker than the everyday. Sometimes this resembles theater, and other times it is a system built from code, sweat, and repetition that escapes control. Across participatory performance, games, speculative enterprises, and creative coding, real transactions and imagined premises become entangled, and other realities begin to take hold.

Trained in computational mathematics and theatre directing, she cofounded and codirected _ao_ao_ing, a Shanghai based performance collective.
